Hello to sentient creatures, one and all!
Kentman 10:32:40 AM
I read that a fossil of a horseshoe crab's brain was recently found.
Brian (host) 10:33:06 AM
You're absolutely right, it was super impressive! I talked about it last week actually: https://www.sciencenews.org/article/fossil-ancient-horseshoe-crab-brain
Brian (host) 10:33:28 AM
It's really rare to get a good look at ancient brains, but once and a while geology pulls through
Kentman 10:34:53 AM
sorry, I missed it. So much fossil hunting is done by amateurs and it must be impossible to regulate it.
Brian (host) 10:36:14 AM
There's no question! It relies on people knowing that something would be scientifically valuable and knowing who to donate it to, even when they could probably sell it on the black market. Customs between borders is probably one of the only ways to recover them
Readie Righteous 10:47:11 AM
Hey Brian! Love hearing the Flaming Lips, anyone who is interested can find musings on The Soft Bulletin's concept is in a forum here https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/the-flamming-lips-the-soft-bulletin-interesting-album-theory.1944927/
Readie Righteous 10:47:57 AM
Because they misspelled the Flaming Lips, it may be tough to find...
Brian (host) 10:53:41 AM
Thanks Readie! Wow, I am actually pretty convinced just glancing over that post. Interesting concept.
Readie Righteous 11:02:19 AM
Yes, and there are probably as many theories out there as there are thoughtful listeners! Interesting serendipitous moment- this morning I was listening to a podcast episode of "Fresh Air" called "The Hiroshima Cover-up" mentioning the Hersey book you talked about recently.
Readie Righteous 11:05:03 AM
That's what's been happening to my car recently! Those pesky lanternflies. Ichh!
Kentman 11:05:30 AM
Hiroshima by John Hersey should be read by everyone, everywhere.
Readie Righteous 11:06:54 AM
Agreed, It's an eye-opener, @Kentman
Brian (host) 11:08:36 AM
I absolutely agree, Kentman! Such a phenomenal work of journalism. That's an event where the facts, when written bare, speak loud and clear
Brian (host) 11:08:55 AM
@Reed I never found a good way to clean off that sap, other than ample elbow grease
Readie Righteous 11:10:35 AM
Interestingly, @Brian - I used extremely hot water, and Dawn detergent, and a sponge, and a lot of elbow grease as you say...
Readie Righteous 11:11:07 AM
Of course, gloves as well...it was quite a workout!
Brian (host) 11:12:00 AM
It sounds like you pulled out all the stops! I think the easiest thing to do is to find a new parking spot if you can. Or, build a good trap and catch them all!
Readie Righteous 11:13:32 AM
LOL, @Brian! I'll tell you, there are many spots to choose from in my community, and I was opting for the shaded areas vs. the torrid areas in bright sunlight! What a choice!
Readie Righteous 11:14:39 AM
I will say it's easier to wait for the car to cool down before getting in than to scrub the sap .
Brian (host) 11:26:57 AM
I tell you what, between climate change, invasive species, and seemingly inevitable partisan collapse, it is becoming really hard to pick a good parking spot.
Brian (host) 11:27:34 AM
I think you're right about choosing the heat over the sap, though. I'd rather be hot and still be able to see out the windows!
Readie Righteous 11:29:55 AM
Yeah, I'm still holding on to my theory that soon we'll all be living in biospheres with controlled eco-systems because our current existence will become untenable.
Readie Righteous 11:31:03 AM
This lyric sounds like Gaelic...
Brian (host) 11:31:40 AM
I believe it is!
Readie Righteous 11:32:01 AM
Beautiful!
Brian (host) 11:33:36 AM
I think we are in a collective state of suspense, a few chapters before the climax of a good novel, wondering how on earth all the protagonists will pull through and how the author will wrap up all the loose ends. Except in real life, there's really no need for closing the narrative!
Readie Righteous 11:40:42 AM
Hmmm, we are living in the longest novel...
Brian (host) 11:47:33 AM
And we each have our own novel, and each of our novels is longer and more complex than anything written down!
Kentman 11:50:08 AM
Nature is the author, been at it for millions of years hammering out several plot lines at the same time
Readie Righteous 11:50:15 AM
One of the most adamant campaigners against mask mandates in central Texas has passed from Covid-19. Just 30 years old, he leaves a pregnant wife and 3 children, all of whom have been masking and following CDC guidelines.
Brian (host) 11:51:14 AM
@Kentman I wonder what season of the show we are on?
Readie Righteous 11:51:17 AM
They respected each others' opinions on it...
Brian (host) 11:51:53 AM
@Readie So many stories like that, hopefully all chronicled for people to learn from later. Respect only goes so far.
Readie Righteous 11:53:04 AM
Yes, @Brian. Science is science. I wonder how hard she tried to convince him to mask up and get vaccinated...
Kentman 11:53:57 AM
I don't think people like to know how fragile human life is
Readie Righteous 11:54:12 AM
Thanks for another interesting show, Brian, STAY WEIRD everyone!
Kentman 11:54:54 AM
will miss your commentary, thanks DJ Brian
Readie Righteous 11:55:38 AM
We can look forward to your springtime return! Good luck on your research!

Thanks Kentman and Readie! A pleasure to chat with you both this morning!
